BLAM8 vs ServiceM8: who answers the email before it's a job card?

ServiceM8 is well-liked trades software at a fair price: job cards, scheduling, quoting, invoicing, unlimited users and real GBP pricing. It now puts an AI assistant in every plan, and its Office Agent chases quotes for you. But its AI helps you write and act once the job exists. The enquiry that starts it is still yours to answer. BLAM8 sits on the mailbox you already have and answers: your voice, your real prices, the job booked into a live diary, waiting on your approval.

When ServiceM8 is the right choice

  • ✓Your bottleneck is field paperwork: job cards, forms and certificates on site, asset service histories, job costing
  • ✓You want on-site quoting, invoicing and card payment in one app, synced to your accounting package, with AI help drafting quotes and invoices
  • ✓Your team runs iPhones and you like per-job pricing: unlimited users from £25/month, and a voice assistant from £0, is genuinely cheap for a crew
  • ✓Most of your enquiries arrive by phone: their Phone Agent is a real AI receptionist, and BLAM8 doesn't answer calls

ServiceM8 has been at this for over a decade and prices fairly in GBP. This page won't pretend otherwise.

When BLAM8 is the right choice

  • ✓Your jobs start as emails, and answering them evenings and weekends is the real admin burden
  • ✓You want the reply already drafted in your voice from your real prices, the slot held and the CRM written, approval-first
  • ✓You want an assistant that works across the inbox, the diary, stays, your team and customers' documents, not just the job records

BLAM8 answers the inbox ServiceM8 files. The job arrives already booked, on any phone you own.

ServiceM8 BLAM8
What it isJob management for trades: job cards, scheduling, quoting, invoicing, payments and field paperwork, once the job exists, now with AI in every planAn AI agent on your mailbox: answers the enquiry, books the job into a live diary, and fills the CRM by itself
Inbound customer emailThe Inbox (Growing £59+) gives the account its own address and turns mail sent or forwarded there into job cards, with attachments saved and PDF work orders scanned. It doesn't connect to your real mailbox, and ServiceM8's own help asks you not to forward all your email to it. The reply is still yours to write. ServiceM8 15 added sending from your own domainConnects to the Outlook or Gmail inbox you already have: every enquiry drafted in your voice from your own prices and policies, approval-first, with full conversation memory
How jobs get bookedThe customer self-serves on an online booking form (instant price, pick a time), or your office keys the job card inBooked from the email conversation against the live diary: a held slot that can't double-book, confirmed in the thread. It never books a date or a time nobody chose
AI on the phoneGenuinely strong: the Phone Agent answers calls like a receptionist, from FAQs you write for it. It screens spam, answers common questions, texts the caller your booking link or books for them, and transfers urgent calls. Needs the ServiceM8 Phone add-on (UK landline numbers)Not covered: BLAM8 doesn't answer calls. SMS and missed-call text-back are built and being tested; they switch on when testing is done
AI on emailAssistive: the AI writing helper drafts when you ask, inside the app. Nothing reads and answers a new enquiry unpromptedIs the worker: reads every inbound email unprompted, drafts in your voice, triages emergencies, quotes off your rate card, books and chases, and fills in the CRM by itself
Your own assistantStrong, and cheap. The AI Smart Assistant, in every plan, is a voice assistant that actions tasks and gets answers. The Office Agent (ServiceM8 15) is one you chat to or schedule: it chases quotes and drafts quotes and invoices, each approved by you. Both work over ServiceM8's job dataThe Concierge (Pro + Concierge, £249): chat or hold to talk. It answers from your inbox, diary, invoices and records, and acts as cards you confirm: draft or send an email, block days, change a stay, update a customer's details, ask for a renewal, hand a job to your team. A card you didn't answer waits and comes back rebuilt against today's diary, and it knows who's asking and what they may do
Grounding & controlThe Phone Agent is grounded in FAQs you write, and the Office Agent's drafts wait for your approval: a sound safety patternReplies grounded in your own knowledge; if the answer isn't known, the email is held and you're asked. Diary holds are checked against real capacity; every Concierge action is confirmed by you; draft-only until you enable auto-send
Customer-facing sideAn online booking form with instant pricing and time selection: a strong self-serve front doorThe email is the front door. Your existing customers can also check, move and pay their bookings and ask questions at blam8.com/c/your-business, reached with the reference code on every email or a code sent to the address you hold. Strangers are turned away
Smart inbox labelsNo: email becomes job cards; the inbox itself isn't managedYes: six categories (needs reply, draft ready, replied, booking pending, FYI, automated) that update themselves as the conversation moves
On your phoneThe full app is iOS-first (iPhone and iPad recommended); Android gets ServiceM8 Lite, a reduced field app for techniciansInstallable app (PWA) from the browser on iOS, Android, Mac and Windows, with push notifications when drafts are ready
SMS channelBuilt in and generous: SMS from the job card, bundles per plan, branded SMS on paid tiersSMS and missed-call text-back are built and being tested; they switch on when testing is done
Field operations depthDeep: forms & certificates on site, asset management, job costing, markup billing, card payments, accounting sync, and the ServiceM8 Phone add-onIntentionally shallower: BLAM8 covers the front of the job (enquiry answered, job booked, quote and invoice sent, CRM filled) and doesn't try to match ServiceM8's field paperwork depth
UK fitReal GBP pricing and UK SMS, from an Australian company. Support is help centre, email and chat; ServiceM8 says it doesn't take support enquiries by phoneUK-built, GBP pricing, designed around how UK service businesses actually quote and book
PricingBy job volume, unlimited users: Free £0 (30 jobs/mo) · Starter £25 (50 jobs) · Growing £59 (150 jobs) · Premium £119 (500 jobs) · Premium Plus £269 (1,500+ jobs) · AI Smart Assistant in every plan · Inbox £59+, Job Costing and Knowledge £119+Starter £39/mo (replies, booking, diary, quotes and invoices, 300 emails) · Pro £99/mo (adds the self-filling CRM, 750 emails) · Pro + Concierge £249/mo (adds the Concierge, 750 emails) · no per-user seats · 14-day free trial of the full product, the Concierge included, no card to start

The same email, through both

A customer writes: "Our equipment stopped working last night — any chance someone could come out tomorrow morning? What would a visit cost?"

With ServiceM8

If you've forwarded it to your ServiceM8 Inbox (Growing plan and up), it becomes a tidy job card with the email attached: filed, not answered. That evening you open the card, ask the writing helper for a reply, set the visit price yourself, send it, and schedule the visit. From there ServiceM8 runs the job well, and its Office Agent will chase the quote if it goes quiet. But the customer waited all day, and the first hour of admin was yours.

With BLAM8

Read as an emergency and flagged ahead of the queue. A reply in your voice quotes the visit off your rate card and offers tomorrow 8–10, with the slot held so nobody double-books it. You approve from your phone; it's sent and in the diary, and on Pro the customer, the job and the promise are already on the CRM record.

Where the two genuinely differ

Both products now have an assistant that acts, and both chose the same safety pattern: the AI proposes, you approve. ServiceM8's is in every plan and it's good value. The difference is where it starts. ServiceM8's Smart Assistant and Office Agent work on the job once it's a job card: chase this quote, draft that invoice. BLAM8's email agent, on every plan, answers the enquiry before there's a job at all.

And BLAM8's Concierge reaches further than the job records: the inbox, the diary, stays that change length, your team and who's on which job, and customers' documents that need renewing. Ask "who's in on Saturday?" or "what's overdue?", and it answers from the records, then drafts the card for you to confirm.

The phone question matters in the UK too: ServiceM8's full app wants your team on iPhones, and Android gets the reduced Lite app. BLAM8 installs from the browser on whatever phone you already carry, and pushes a notification the moment a draft is ready to approve.

Frequently asked questions

Can ServiceM8 answer my customer emails?+

Not by itself. ServiceM8's Inbox (Growing plan, £59/month and up) gives your account its own email address and turns mail sent or forwarded there into job cards, with attachments saved and PDF work orders scanned in. It doesn't connect to your real mailbox, and ServiceM8's own help asks you not to forward all your email to it. The reply is still yours to write, with help from the AI writing helper when you ask. ServiceM8 has built genuinely capable agents: the Phone Agent answers calls, and the Office Agent chases quotes and drafts quotes and invoices for your approval. But none of them reads and answers a new enquiry in your mailbox. BLAM8 does: it connects to the Outlook or Gmail inbox you already have, drafts every reply in your voice from your own knowledge, holds the diary slot, and sends once you approve.

ServiceM8 has an AI assistant in every plan now. Isn't that the same as the Concierge?+

It's the closest thing on the market, and it's included from £0, so it's fair to say so plainly. ServiceM8's AI Smart Assistant is a voice assistant, in every plan, that actions tasks and gets answers. ServiceM8 15 added the Office Agent, which you chat to or schedule to chase quotes and draft quotes and invoices, each one approved by you. Both work once the job exists, over ServiceM8's own job data. BLAM8's Concierge (on Pro + Concierge, £249/month) works across the inbox, the diary, stays, your team and customers' documents. You chat or talk to it, and it drafts or sends an email, blocks days, changes a stay, asks a customer for a renewal or hands a job to a team member, each as a card you confirm. The bigger difference is underneath it: BLAM8's email agent, on every plan, answers the enquiry before there's a job at all.

Does ServiceM8 have an AI receptionist?+

Yes, for phone calls. The ServiceM8 Phone Agent answers inbound calls like a virtual receptionist: it screens spam, answers common questions from FAQs you configure, texts callers your online booking link or submits a booking for them, and transfers urgent calls to staff. It needs the ServiceM8 Phone add-on, which is available in the UK with landline numbers. BLAM8 is the reverse: it answers the inbox and doesn't answer calls. SMS and missed-call text-back are built and being tested; they switch on when testing is done.

How does ServiceM8 pricing work for UK businesses?+

ServiceM8 prices in GBP for the UK and charges by job volume, not per user: Free £0/month (30 jobs), Starter £25 (50 jobs), Growing £59 (150 jobs), Premium £119 (500 jobs) and Premium Plus £269 (1,500+ jobs), with unlimited users. The AI Smart Assistant, AI writing helper and AI quotes and invoices are in every plan. Some features step with the tier: the Inbox needs Growing (£59+), and Job Costing and Knowledge need Premium (£119+). BLAM8 is £39 (Starter), £99 (Pro) or £249 (Pro + Concierge) per month, priced by emails handled rather than jobs created. Prices checked September 2026.

Does ServiceM8 work on Android?+

Partly. ServiceM8's full-featured app is built for iOS, and the company recommends iPhones for field technicians. Android gets ServiceM8 Lite, a reduced app aimed at technicians and subcontractors: schedules, job details and checklists, not the full management feature set. BLAM8 is a web app that installs from the browser on iOS, Android, Mac and Windows alike, with push notifications on all of them.

Is BLAM8 a ServiceM8 alternative?+

They cover different ends of the job. ServiceM8 is genuinely good, keenly priced job management, with job cards, scheduling, quoting, invoicing, card payments, forms and certificates and accounting sync, and now AI in every plan, once a job exists. BLAM8 owns the step before that: the enquiry email answered in your voice with your real prices, the slot held in a live diary that can't double-book, and the CRM written from the thread. If your bottleneck is field paperwork, ServiceM8 earns its keep. If it's the inbox, with evenings lost to typing replies and keying jobs in, that's BLAM8.

Is BLAM8 as deep on field operations as ServiceM8?+

Honestly: no, and it doesn't try to be. Forms and certificates on site, asset service histories, job costing, on-site card payments and accounting sync are a decade of ServiceM8 depth. What BLAM8 does is answer the enquiry, book the job and fill in the CRM before any of that starts. That's the front door ServiceM8 files rather than answers: the inbox, handled.

Can I use BLAM8 with ServiceM8?+

There's no direct integration today, but nothing stops BLAM8 answering the inbox while ServiceM8 runs your field paperwork. If your day lives in job cards, forms and on-site payments, keep ServiceM8 for that. If what you need is enquiries answered and the diary filled, BLAM8 on its own may be enough.

A filed email is still an unanswered email.

Free 14-day trial of the full product, no card. Connect the mailbox tonight; tomorrow's "can you come out?" gets answered, quoted and booked.
